What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health.

What does a chiropractor do?

Doctors of Chiropractic identify and correct joint misalignments (subluxations) to restore normal movement throughout the body.

What the heck is a subluxation?

A subluxation is any joint misalignment that is less than a complete dislocation.

From Latin:

sub = less (than)

luxation = dislocation

What is the goal of chiropractic treatment?

The goal of chiropractic treatment is to remove nerve interference, restore normal movement and reduce pain by correcting joint misalignments. The goal of a treatment plan is to make the correction permanent and allow your body to heal naturally.

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?

If you wear glasses, you know how it feels to have your glasses frames straighten. Immediately after they’re fixed, they feel crooked because your body must adjust to the new, corrected position of the glasses. Chiropractic adjustments can lead to similar sensations but rarely cause discomfort. Some patients, particularly those with chronic complaints, may experience mild soreness or aching following treatment (just like with new exercise) that usually resolves within 12-48 hours.

In order to prevent or minimize any possible discomfort Dr. Colby, uses a variety of techniques. Depending on your specific condition, more traditional manual adjustments may not be appropriate. Dr. Colby’s extensive knowledge of several techniques allows him to correct misalignments with minimum force and discomfort. Many of these techniques do not cause the audible cracking and popping which are commonly associated with chiropractic.

How often will I need treatment?

Dr. Colby will complete a through exam to learn about your complaint, your health history, and your goals. Based on his findings he will recommend a treatment plan. The treatment plan may include chiropractic, massage, exercise, and laser therapy. The duration and frequency of an initial treatment plan will vary between patients depending on your specific complaint and goals.

Can I get addicted to chiropractic adjustments?

You cannot become addicted to chiropractic adjustments any more than you can become addicted to any other healthy lifestyle change. As you become accustomed to living in a pain-free body, however, you may find that you want to continue regular tune-up adjustments to maintain your new found freedom.

Do I really need to finish my treatment plan?

YES! It’s important to remember that the healing is just beginning when the pain stops. Just because you don’t hurt, doesn’t mean that your injury has healed. Your treatment plan is your ticket to getting out of pain, staying out of pain and reducing the risk of future injury.
