K-Laser Therapy

What is Class IV Laser Therapy?

Below you will find information regarding Laser Therapy, Class IV Laser Therapy, K-Laser and links to independent studies demonstrating the efficacy of laser therapy when used to treat a variety of conditions.

If you have any further questions, call or email. Dr. Colby will be happy to discuss the use of K-Laser therapy in our clinic as an adjunct to high-quality chiropractic care and its potential to help you.

What is Laser Therapy?

Laser therapy is the application of specific laser-light frequencies to living tissue with the goal of accelerated healing. Low Level Laser Therapies (LLLT), by definition, do not cut, cauterize or destroy tissue. LLLT does not heat the skin over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and as a result does not burn or cause pain.

What is a Class IV laser?

Class IV lasers are the newest, cutting-edge, and most powerful of the LLLT devices available on the market today.

Benefits of Laser Therapy:

  • Pain Relief
  • Accelerated healing
  • Reduced muscle tension/spasms
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Increased Range of Motion

How does Laser Therapy Work?

Your body already knows how to heal itself. If it didn’t, we’d all be dead of papercuts! Laser theapy can’t make your body do anything that it doesn’t already know how to do naturally. What can do is help speed up those natural processes. Laser therapy helps to speed your natural healing in three primary ways, it:

  1. Increases blood circulation to the cell,
  2. Enhances oxygen release from the blood to the cells, and
  3. Increases ATP (energy) production within the cell.

To see these processes in action, watch the video below.

Is laser therapy safe?

Laser therapy protocols have been used safely and effectively in Eurpoe and Russia since 1967 and for more than 15 years in the United States. In 2002, the FDA approved the first “therapeutic laser” and in 2005 the first “Class IV” laser for medical use. Even better than the fact that LLLTs are FDA approved are these three facts:

  1. LLLT Can be used directly over the spinal column.
    • There is no risk to the spinal cord or other tissue. This means that it is safe to treat facet joints, ligaments, discs and other tissue in this sensitive area safely. Ultrasound cannot be used as effectively as it may heat the cerebral spinal fluid around the spinal cord.
  2. LLLT can be used immediately after surgery.
    • LLLT can be used directly over metal implants such as hip replacements, screws, rods and metal plates where ultrasound and electrical therapies may not be applied.
  3. LLLT is virtually free of side effects!
    • There have been rare reports of periods of dizziness following treatments. These episodes, however, are generally very brief and do not return even with subsequent treatments. Occasionally, soreness in the treated area may occur. That’s it! There are no other known side effects to LLLT.

Why K-Laser?

Each of the beneficial functions of laser therapy (increased blood circulation, oxygen release, and ATP production) are enhanced by different specific laser light frequencies. Additionally, the depth of the injury and correspondingly the depth of penetration necessary for treatment vary between injuries. Our class IV K-laser not only has the capability of producing all of these wave length and frequency variations, but also the ability to combine them within a single treatment protocol. The K-series lasers offer the most complete coverage of the therapeutic laser light spectrum currently available on the market. This technology allows for shorter, more effective treatments when compared to most other available lasers.
